The Perks of Purple That Are Making It So Popular

If we hadn't heard it from an authority, we wouldn't have believed it: One of the top home decor trends taking Pinterest by storm this year is the purple bedroom. Do a simple Google search and you'll see hundreds upon hundreds of examples. 

We were surprised because purple can be, well, rather polarizing. Many find it hard to work with in decorating, and it's frankly a pretty bold choice. 

But after doing some investigating, we learned why the purple bedroom in particular might be so popular.  

A recent Good Housekeeping article, "Purple Is Popping Up in Interiors and Designers Are Embracing the Daring Shade," says, "Purple is an increasingly popular paint color and accent color for bedrooms, both for young girls and adults," and "Purple works beautifully in personal spaces where its calming qualities can be most appreciated - like bedrooms." 

The article also notes that different shades of purple can invoke many different effects, such as sophistication, luxury, royalty, individuality, and drama, as well as creativity, sanctuary, calm, and femininity.

A March article from House Beautiful, "16 Dreamy Purple Bedroom Ideas That Prove This 'Controversial' Color Is Very Versatile," reports, "From painting the trim of your room lavender to using a mauve bedspread and pillows, you'll find that incorporating purple into your sleep space will make it feel so luxurious and elegant, as well as relaxing."
